Yes, I especially like the crime/forensics shows, which explains why I wrote a novel in that genre and started another one. A hint to the makers of those shows: Apparently, you're convinced that we tune in to see close-ups of incredibly realistic-looking bodies and body parts in the most disgusting stages of decomp. A news flash for you: many of us watch not BECAUSE of that, but IN SPITE of it. Ick. I'm just sayin' ...
I do love science-fiction, too, of course, but there's not a lot of it on TV right now that excites me. I was looking forward to V, but now I hear it may only run for a few episodes, then a long, not-very-brilliant-of-them hiatus. Have the networks execs ever heard the phrase "Strike while the iron is hot"? Or how 'bout a new one: "Don't snatch back a new series when we just start getting attached to it, then keep it in limbo until we've moved on to something else"? I know, I know, the Olympics will disrupt regular programming. So why not have given V a September start instead of November?
Sigh ... I miss Battlestar Galactica. The writing, acting, directing, and sheer coolness out-shined most non-sci-fi dramas. So many amazing moments in those few short years. One minute, I'd wish I could be Starbuck, so totally kick-ass ... the next, I felt sorry for poor delusional Baltar ... and a scene later, I'd want to boot him out the airlock. Wonderful, complex characters -- the good guys, flawed, not saintly and perfect; the bad guys, some brutal, but some who had, if not a heart of gold, at least a sliver of humanity that exposed itself at unexpected moments. As a writer, I learned a lot just watching those 75 or so episodes (and no doubt will learn more from the DVDs whenever I get the urge for some frakkin' good entertainment).
Fortunately, this being a Tuesday, there's only one show tonight that I don't want to miss -- NCIS. Which means I can get much more writing done.
Enjoy the premieres of your favorite shows, and the ensuing new episodes, fellow TV fans. Reruns will be upon us before you know it. And if you like crime shows as much as I do, you might want to check out the first chapter of my second crime/thriller novel. You can download it free from "Nails" (the tentative title) on the menu. Of course, you won't know how it turns out for a long time, since there is no CHAPTER TWO yet, but I will be publishing my first crime/thriller via Print-On-Demand fairly soon, and the chapter of the new book will give you an idea of my writing style. And since it's a book rather than a TV show, you won't have to actually SEE those gross dead bodies ;-D
