DONE!

I did it!

I finished something!

Or, to be more precise, I started and finished something.

So, no, not the Easter story, which will probably be shelved yet again this year. Instead, another sequel to my sci-fi short story, Poof! This one actually is short (as some of you may know, “Brevity” is not my middle name), and right now, during the dark & silent middle-of-the-night, magical writing hours, I'm still at the I-love-it stage.

Sure, I'm a little late with the once-a-week blog post thing. And, like I said, the Easter story is probably doomed (although, at this writing, I do have a few days left). And I still haven't been able to wrap my mind around that last, big action scene in my dystopian novella. Also, the serial killer short story doesn't have an ending.

But I finished something!

I'd love to share it with you (no one has actually begged me for it, but it's early in the day, right?), but of course it's still first draft. Now I'll do several more drafts, after which I'll swear I screwed it up, and I'll hate it and decide it's worthless junk, get all depressed, and wonder why in the world I do this at all.

Shortly thereafter, I'll reach the what-was-I-thinking-this-is-not-bad phase, followed by polishing it up so it gleams and is ready to pub here on my website. I'll be happy again. I'll be ready.

Then, the inevitable detour. For whatever reason, I will hop onto the Last Train To Insecurityville. The usual negative thoughts will invade my head, stumbling zombie-like, bumping into each other and trampling all over my newly-written words.

But this time I won't allow them to destroy my creation or squelch my exuberance.

I'll take out my secret weapon — my big, Daryl action figure from The Walking Dead. I'll put his crossbow in his hands, he'll let it fly, and thwap! Those arrows (yes, it comes with crossbow and arrows; what an awesome Christmas present it was!) will penetrate the brains of those zombie word-crushers. Ahhh... Daryl, being all savior-like.

Um...

Did I actually say that (type that) out loud (out my fingers)? It is possible that I've become a little too attached to my Daryl action figure.

But let's leave that for another time.

For now, all that matters is that I will stay the course and remain confident about my new story sequel, Poof! 1.5: The Train.

I FINISHED something!
